Malaysia Street Food @ RWS

Read about this premise on newspaper and thought it quite interesting to see how RWS created this olden days Malaysia  street food.

Came exactly at 12 pm and the place was getting crowded with few seats still available.

Quite a spacious area which decorated as olden days shop houses, completed with the shutter windows, road lamps, pictures, road signs and others items. Creating the ambience of night street foods where usually we had our meal on simple make shift table in front of the shop houses.

My mission was to have char kwey tiauw which turned out to be one of the most popular stalls there. I got queue no of 58, that meant they had managed to sell 57 plates from opening hour. The stall cutely put a no display in front of their cashier area so you know your order is ready.
There was no other menu beside Char Kwey Tiauw beside, with Eggs, it costs S$ 5/plate.

What I liked from the stall was the background of their stall, it was the grilled metal doors, as if this stall started selling their char kwey tiauw when the shop closed. Simple decor but giving a relative impact for sure.

A bit disappointed on the Beverage counter, it was pretty limited and not coordinated well.

It just like your normal food court with a different atmosphere, comfort food that sure will appeal most Asian with variety of Chinese, Malay and Indian foods.

No food court was available at RWS area before, by having this Malaysia street food, it serves as a good option for the visitors.

I do like how the background concept of this stall. It really felt as reminiscence of a night shift food cart being wheeled in front of an closed shophouses as can be seen from the metal grill. Clever idea..
Some of bird cages being hanged..a really Kampung scene
The other entrance/exit way..noticed there is a Stop Sign...
Modern version of the oil lamp

The Utensil area
So called Home Made Barley but I felt as it came from cane.

Hainese Chicken Rice Balls, another popular stall

They made the rice into these 5 pcs of rice balls

The chicken with yellowish skin
Char Kwey Tiauw as how I like it, and no cockles...so another plus!

Call Button from the Satay stall

Not very fond of Singapore/Malaysia satay peanut sauce as it is not smooth as Indonesian style. But the chicken satay was pretty good.
Next to main entrance, only noticed it on way out. For a second, I thought it was a Chinese Herb shop; but said to myself, it couldn't be. And true, it is a Pastry shop for Egg Tart and not sure on the other, like puff pastry (?)

Some knick knacks inside the pastry shop

Little Saigon

I suddenly felt an urge to try Vietnamese Restaurant and thought I have not been to Clarke Quay area for years, so, I found Little Saigon.

Seemed quite interesting from its menu on the website, so, without reservation, we arrived there around 6.30 pm. Knowing Clarke Quay crowd, I was quite confident, we could get a seat at those hour.

What made me surprise was the indoor section, it totally different from the photo on website, instead of table with seats, it is high table with bar stool seats. I opted for the outdoor and right next to the river view.

When our appetizer came, I was a bit taken aback as I thought it did not look as what I expected, cause I had tried supposedly the same rice spring roll.

It certainly reminded me why I have not been this area for years, not a place for having a gourmet meal for sure.

The the fried rice came but the portion was tiny, the pho bo was okay but more on beef brisket.

Not sure how many staff they are currently having but the outdoor was mainly manned by 1 lady staff so a bit slow in getting their attention.

It may be a good place for drinks, as most of the venues at Clarke Quay but not for your dining destination.

Will still be looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant in Singapore.

Their Logo is an eye-catching and oh so suitable to be identified with Clarke Quay

Their blue lantern

Their blue and white colour theme on table setting

The outdoor area facing the indoor area, the building with turquoise blue

Logo on top of the indoor entrance

Some pics of the dishes but only saw it after we made our order

Quite interesting to see the oil in this blue glass

Our appetizer, the Deep Fried Rice Paper Spring Roll

It did not look like a cut spring rolls and did not really tasted the crabmeat and spices

Shirley Temple Mocktails, it was refreshing

The Fried Rice with shredded chicken and prawns, complemented with fresh and juicy dragonfruit cubes

This was something new, never thought dragonfruits paired with fried rice. But it such a tiny portion and just okay.

Pho Bo, the rice noodles with slices of beef and beef brisket.

More of beef brisket. Tasted okay, as normal Pho Bo. The rice noodles were softer and shorter than normal

Our Dessert, Chilled Lemongrass Jelly served with fresh mango cubes and seasonal fruit

It took quite some time to serve us the dessert. It was a dish that I liked most

Mooshi Bakes Brasserie

Past by Mooshi Bakes Brasserie along Katong Road after we went to Zaffron Kitchen; it is part of Awfully Chocolate venture to brasserie and it shared one building with the chocolate shop.

We stopped by to have our lunch here and intrigued to see how the bakery and brasserie are.

The brasserie is identical to Awfully Chocolate concept, it's simple, dominated by white then black, with concrete flooring. There were 2 entrance, one from the bakery side which facing the 112 Katong Mall and the other one on the side road from Joo Chiat Road.

The food was okay, nothing extraordinary; waiting staff were courteous but a bit inexperienced.

I did wonder with such a large seating area seeing how empty it was when I came for lunch, but strangely, around 2 pm, the crowd came in. Well, perhaps they came for tea breaks.

We did buy the pastries, it styled like Japanese bakery with its soft buns and fusion fillings.

For the cakes, I found it tad too sweet when I had the Banana Cream Pie.

Not really the place for me for a meal....

The menu

Such simplicity and bareness

The kitchen counter

Our House Special Iced Honey Lime Green Tea, a bit strange to my taste even though I love Green Tea and Lime, separately

The Truffle Oil Scramble Eggs, tasty eggs and nice ciabatta

The really big breakfast, I found the sausages were way too saltish, the sauteed mushroom sprinkle with cheese made it also saltish and the handmade sour dough was way too big and too hard, preferred the ciabatta

The Banana Cream Pie, first scoop was tasty but going to second onwards, it started to feel the sweetness...
